Many householders and small business operators will read with some dismay that electricity tariffs in NSW are expected to rise a further 60% over the next three years. This is in addition to the roughly 20% rise most customers experienced in July 2009. The reason for the increase is related mainly to the cost of upgrading and maintaining the electricity network, as well as the likely introduction of a carbon reduction scheme over this period. As a result of these changes, our work in the household energy efficiency area has gained heightened importance in helping residents stay on top of price rises. We have also been working hard to further refine our site assessment process for businesses and organisations. This is a great way for small businesses and other organisations to have their premises assessed and an Action Plan developed.
