Power Meters and Wireless Energy Monitors – how would you use them?

Recently Steplight ran a competition on our Facebook and Twitter pages. Prizes included a wireless energy monitor and our popular plug-in power meter.

We asked entrants what they hoped to find out with these devices. Here are our three winners:

I’d like my kids to see exactly how much power leaving all their lights and consoles on actually uses – and then change their ways!

- Alison J. via Facebook

What does the bore pump cost to run? And the water tank pump/filtration system? etc. Then once I have some answers next to rein in consumption!

Friday is the first day of winter, a Power Meter is a no brainer to find our energy suckers and reduce the energy bill too.

- ‘Sustainable Mum’ via Twitter

And here’s what some others had to say:

I want to lessen my bill and bust all the shonky energy saving devices.

- Phil R.

I’m constantly trying to reduce power usage in my house… some things I can’t switch off like incubators and heat pads for the wildlife I have in care as I am a volunteer carer, but it would be great to be able to monitor the usage of all household appliances so that I can try to reduce the things that are not essential, as this would help to balance the essential appliances that I have to have running 24/7.

- Shannon M.

Anything to stop getting a bill for 3 months during Winter that was $2200! Eeeps!

- Sally R.

I’d like to know how much energy my house is consuming when I am not there.

- Jam S.

I’m extremely power conscious yet my bills are still sky high and I don’t know why. I’d love to compare my Steplight Power Meter or Energy Monitor data against my suppliers “data”. Power to the People!

- Dom D.

Just what we need to see how much more we can save since installing all LED lights in the home.

- Wendy H.

I’d like to know what my energy usage will be in our new house before I get slugged with a massive bill, and hopefully do something to reduce usage.

- Cathy M.

I hope this will allow me to clear up the uncertainty about the performance of my PV system and the power consumption in my house so I can tun these to grater efficiency.

- Charles B.
