Story of Stuff – Recycling Near You, Freecycle

Taking a little journey with the Story of Stuff project this week I tuned into Annie Leonard’s podcast series. In episode 3 Annie interviews Karla, a working mum, about how she started her family on reducing the waste they create.

Locally, there are great resources available to help you reduce your waste. A couple of my favourites are Planet Ark’s RecyclingNearYou which provides information on the recycling and waste services in or closest to your local government area. You can search the website by location or product, or phone their Recycling Hotline.

The other is Freecycle, a global network of local groups whose members give their unwanted stuff away. It’s a grassroots nonprofit movement of people who want to prevent good stuff going to landfill. When you first enter the site put in a search for your suburb to see where the closest group is to you. It’s free to join and to participate.
