This workshop covers the basics of sustainability. It includes discussion of key concepts such as Ecological Sustainable Development, climate change, greenhouse gases and the Earth’s bio-capacity. Practical activities of calculating individual ecological footprint’s can also be included.

NSW Government Save Power Kit Measuring & Monitoring Energy Consumption
Despite rapidly rising energy bills, energy consumption remains an abstract concept for most homes and businesses. This is a focused workshop on how to measure and monitor energy consumption and understand utility bills. This workshop can also include a practical guide to the NSW Save Power Kit’s (available for rent from Council libraries).

A workshop targeted at business owners who are feeling the pinch with rising energy bills. This workshops builds on Steplight’s extensive experience which includes the completion of over 50 commercial energy audits. The workshop includes practical measures which most businesses can implement right away as well as cross-referral to related government programs and available rebates.

 Energy Efficiency Practical Tips Energy & Water Efficiency For Households
Many households are keen to reduce their energy and water consumption but do not know where to start. This workshop outlines some basic household energy consumption theory (how it’s generated and where it’s used). It goes on to cover a number of no-cost and low-cost measures that households can implement to reduce both energy and water consumption.

This workshop outlines how to safely and effectively use greywater as an alternative water source. Topics covered include the effect on soils, system types and installation, available rebates and government regulations.

 Sustainable House Ian Moxon A Sustainable House at Blaxlands Ridge
Building a new home or renovating are one of the highest ‘impact’ and costliest activities that we undertake. In this workshop Ian Moxon takes participants through the steps he took in designing and building his fully off-grid Sustainable House.
 Waste and Recycling Applying the Four R’s of Waste Management
There are many “R’s” in effective waste management. This workshop covers in depth the four areas of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Remove. Content includes practical measures for households and workplaces to implement to reduce the volume and impact of their waste stream.
 Sustainable Gardens Sustainable Gardens
This workshops covers all the essentials in sustainable gardens: water usage, composting, worm farms, no-dig gardening and plant choice. Related topics are also introduced such as green fertilizers and considerations for garden equipment, pools and spas.
